Make your data citable 📊
Your data deserve more than living forever in a forgotten folder.
Publish it in bonndata.uni-bonn.de and get a DOI — so others can reuse (and cite!) your work.
Sharing = visibility = impact. 🚀

You can tell a lot about a project by its filenames… and final_reallyFINAL.xlsx tells us everything 😅
Instead: Use clear, consistent names with version numbers

Today, the SFD is dating other research data service centers at the #ForschungsDating2025. We just started with a greeting by Karoline Wirbatz. And she announced big news from @unibonn.bsky.social for fdm.nrw: DataPublication.nrw, a research data repository for NRW higher education institutions 🥳

#OAWeek2025 asked: Who owns our knowledge?
In Germany, this question connects to the strategy by the Allianz der Wissenschaftsorganisationen, calling for community-led OA infrastructures, transparent funding, and digital sovereignty.

As a researcher, you do it all: teach, publish, apply for funding. Yet when trying to publish openly, the door often stays closed because of high costs, limited funds, and prestige bias. That’s why the University of Bonn supports researchers in overcoming these barriers to #OpenAccess.

80% of Nobel discoveries come from just 5 countries.
If science were truly open, maybe genius would look more global. 🌍

𝟓 biggest RDM mistakes ➡ how to avoid them @unibonn.bsky.social
1️⃣ Collect data with no plan 💣 use our DMP guide
2️⃣ Store stuff on Dropbox 🤢 use Sciebo
3️⃣ Write local code 💻 use GitLab/Jupyter4Research
4️⃣ No documentation 🗒️ use README template as a guide
5️⃣ Share data as supplemt to paper 📂 use bonndata

Halfway through your project, you can’t find the study data, five different files all claim to be final_version.xlsx, nobody remembers what the variable names mean, and the notes explaining them are scattered across three email threads. Now the funder asks for your data management strategy. Oops 👇

Did you know? 3 myths about OA … busted!
❌ “I can’t publish OA without funds.” ✅ Funders cover costs, waivers exist, Diamond OA is free.
❌ “OA isn’t peer-reviewed.” ✅ Same standards as subscription publishing.
❌ “OA isn’t copyrighted.” ✅ Authors keep rights, licenses ensure attribution.
