🔧 Where improvements could help:
Controlled bulk access, better documentation, and privacy-preserving person IDs could greatly increase usability while maintaining strong safeguards.

⚠️ Key limitations:
API-only access, no public interface, searches limited to company numbers, no bulk download, and no unique identifiers for individuals, making linkage difficult.

✅ Strong foundations:
Structured and well-organised data, authoritative company identifiers, and both up-to-date and historical records, which are crucial for understanding ownership changes.

Under our new 2025–2030 strategy, we will assist countries in achieving international benchmarks for BOT, including those established by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and advocate for advancement beyond mere technical compliance to proven effectiveness.

Open Ownership continues to work with a number of governments worldwide to develop and refine best practices for #BeneficialOwnership reform

➡️ Supporting the recommendation to engage regional initiatives, such as the Africa Beneficial Ownership Transparency (AfBOT) Network, to strengthen BO implementation, expand the availability and use of BO data, and pursue regional data sharing in support of asset recovery

For instance, in July, the UN's #FinancingforDevelopment conference adopted new commitments regarding BOT, aiming to address illicit financial flows and enhance domestic resource mobilisation
