New from me: I spoke to two scientists who originally helped spread the use of carbon capture. They now say it's being misused. Here's why (gift link):
The Scientists Who Popularized Carbon Capture Have a Warning About It
Many countries are relying on it to meet their climate goals, but it might hurt more than help, they say.

And here is perhaps a better version, looking at the top 10 countries causing the changes in emissions from 2015 and from 2023.

Cheers, appreciated! (That's why I pile on you here 😜 not sure my emails to other GCB would reach the right people.)

I really appreciate the openness and outreach efforts of the Global Carbon Budget, especially of you and Robbie. The topic of the Nature paper seems highly relevant - it's something that's discussed here often. So I think it should be openly available (which it is, just not easily found).

Look, when I see your annual thread about the GCB I'm excited, looking forward to read about the latest updates. When I stumble on a paywall, I'm disappointed.
An easy fix for the GCB outreach effort and you, link to the "open" preprint openly, not only hidden deep in a Google Drive for journos.

Exactly! And there might be different objectives and different readerships. If you want to get hired by people who value publications in Nature and Science you need to publish there.
If you want to be as widely read as possible do whatever but if you link the preprint everyone can at least read it.

I was specifically poking fun on the hypocrisy of saying "We are providing an unedited version of this manuscript to give early access to its findings." and then "subscription content". I think it's also strange that journalists got earlier access to the manuscript than the scientific community.
