are they creating a subdomain for every user though? i think they just use a wildcard subdomain e.g for monk.bsky.social theres no txt record and the A record is identical to every other subdomain

wildcard subdomains are a different thing from "a subdomain for every user" but 1) i dont think bluesky is creating a subdomain for every user 2) the limits for number of dns entries is in the millions for some providers e.g. google cloud dns

i dont have a good grasp of the protocol yet but i think the skeet mention lookups happen in the client and not the protocol
