Celebrating American One-Hit Wonders from the Billboard Hot 100 era... A US #OneHitWonder is a group/performer with just 1 hit single, as measured against the industry-standard US Billboard Top 40, which is #1 through #40 on their Hot 100 chart. 🇺🇦 🇨🇦
I can't imagine much... I don't believe that it ever charted on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and no singles reached the Hot 100.

The only other Lindisfarne single that charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 was "Lindisfarne," off their debut album. This single topped out at #82 in September '72.

#Interestingly “Run For Home” was produced by famed English engineer/producer Gus Dudgeon, most known for his work with Elton John... That production sheen made it easy for Lindisfarne to share the AM dial with the soft rockers & singer/songwriters in 1978. #Lindisfarne #GusDudgeon #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly English folk-rockers Lindisfarne formed in Newcastle in 1968, blending good ol’ English pub-rock with folk... Fronted by Alan Hull, they became UK cult heroes long before most of us ever heard them over here in America. #Lindisfarne #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Culturally, “An Open Letter to My Teenage Son” was a lightning rod... Critics blasted the record as smug & sanctimonious; Life magazine ran a scathing piece on it, while others later tagged it as a prime example of conservative ‘spoken-word pop’ from the Vietnam era. #OneHitWondered

#OneHitHistory Then Senate Rep. Minority Leader Everett McKinley Dirksen earned US #OneHitWonder honors the week ending January 7, 1967, with his spoken word "Gallant Men,” which entered the US #Billboard #Top40 at #33, peaking at #29 two weeks later. #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Commercially, it was huge: more than a million copies sold, a gold disc, and even a Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Word Recording, losing out to Senator Everett Dirksen’s “Gallant Men. #VictorLundberg #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Despite (or, more likely, because of) the controversy, “An Open Letter to My Teenage Son” exploded. It debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 at #84 the week ending November 11, 1967 & rocketed to #10 in just 3 weeks (spending 6 weeks total on the Hot 100 before vanishing). #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly The climax line made “An Open Letter to My Teenage Son” famous & notorious: if his son burns his draft card, he should burn his birth certificate too, because ‘from that moment on, I have no son.’ That hit a nerve in an already divided country. #VictorLundberg #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly “An Open Letter to My Teenage Son” is basically a four-minute lecture... Lundberg defends traditional patriotism & religion while warning that the youth revolt is built on ‘misconceptions’ about America and its values. #VictorLundberg #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Victor Lundberg was working at Grand Rapids radio station WMAX when he recorded the single… No chorus, no hook, just a stern monologue over “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” addressing ‘60s counterculture: long hair, hippies, drugs, campus protests, and the Vietnam draft. #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly On Adult Contemporary radio, “All I Need” went all the way to #1 in the US & Canada… But on the US #Billboard #Top40, it got stuck for 2 weeks at #2 (peaked at #3 in 🇨🇦). The single had the misfortune of going up against “Like A Virgin” by Madonna. #JackWagner #Madonna #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote David Pack was a West Coast veteran... Quincy Jones brought him in to help write “All I Need.” Yeah, Pack was already the voice/writer of Ambrosia’s soft-rock staples, so he knew his way around pop, AC, and a bit of ‘yacht’ harmony. That DNA is all over “All I Need.” #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote Clif Magness was Quincy Jones’ secret weapon. A multi-instrumentalist out of Texas, he not only co-wrote “All I Need,” but also co-produced the album, played guitars, and stacked backing vocals, & launched his long career as a go-to writer/producer. #ClifMagness #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote Glen Ballard was Quincy Jones’ protégé at Qwest Records. He had a long run with Quincy, including co-writing “Man in the Mirror” for Michael Jackson & his work with Wilson Phillips and Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill. #GlenBallard #AlanisMorissette #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly The soap opera launched “All I Need.” ABC & Quincy Jones brought him into the studio where Glen Ballard, Clif Magness & David Pack built the song around Frisco Jones… Jack Wagner debuted the song on General Hospital, then rode that audience onto AC & pop radio. #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote The on-screen chemistry was real and undeniable. Jack Wagner & “Felicia Cummings’ actor Kristina Malandro fell in love, and got married in 1993… which only made fans love them more. It wasn’t to last, though… the couple divorced in 2006. #JackWagner #KristinaCrump #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Jack Wagner became a soap opera star on General Hospital in the early ’80s… starring as carefree rocker Frisco Jones. The game-changer is pairing him with Felicia Cummings. ‘Frisco & Felicia’ made them daytime royalty… romance, spy missions, big wedding. #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Niteflyte? Built around singer Howard Johnson & guitarist/producer Sandy Torano, They were an 🇺🇸 R&B/funk group ridin’ the tail end of the disco era… In 1979, they slipped this sleek lil’ gem onto US radio. “If You Want It” was the group’s only US #Top40 hit. #Niteflyte #OneHitWondered

Not familiar with that one... I know John Entwistle covered it on one of his solo albums.
