Kirsten Sinema started out in politics as a Green Party candidate who wanted an increased minimum wage. Years later as a Democratic Senator, she voted against one. She is now a well paid lobbyist. How do we create a system that disincentivizes this?

Any lessons about preventing Republicans from acting with impunity and never getting any blowback from voters? Or are Democrats the only political group with agency?

Growing the House proportionally could help prevent electoral college wins that favor Republicans and grant them presidential incumbency advantages that they could never otherwise get. Getting rid of Citizens United is an absolute necessity.

Yes, if we can fully study how to never have an Obama again, the Trump problem will solve itself. Sorry to be flip, I believe you mean well. There are structural problems with the Senate, the fact that the House hasn’t grown proportionally in ages and the Supreme Court (Citizens United anyone?)

The president doesn’t dictate to the Senate about the filibuster - not even this president succeeded in browbeating the Senate Republicans to eliminate it during the shutdown. Congress is a co-equal branch - we need to elect people who see the filibuster as an impediment to progress in the long run.

His presidency will be criticized for activating the people who resented him breaking that color barrier is essentially what you’re saying. Because that’s what we’re dealing with. I’m not sure that’s the right takeaway. The open bigotry of the current president is what got him elected. Chew on that.

Scott’s gifts to many universities, especially minority serving institutions (mine included), are unrestricted at a moment when federal funding for diversity and equity initiatives and education more generally is dwindling. In a country now run by misanthropic billionaires I’m so grateful for her.
