I know *two* cases like this (one my stepmother, and the spouse of a friend). Exaggerating or inventing illness, maybe especially to keep a spouse from leaving, is a thing.

I feel many people read this and think "what horrifying monsters" but for women scientists, it's more like "yeah, checks out".
The emails are revolting, not only the content, but the embedded privilege that SO many women and POC have been and are victims of.
I want a new reckoning out of this.
