Heard my monolingual Aachi say "எல்லாம் நார்மலமா இருக்குன்னு சொல்லிட்டாங்க பாப்பா" (with regard to her glucose test). I wonder if she added the அம் (-am) suffix to the English word "normal" by analogy with Tamil abstract nouns or is that some phonological adaptation? #CodeMixing

Someone just reminded me of பற்றும் which would be பத்தும் in speech. It’s still a nice coincidence!
I've always wondered whether #Tamil பத்தும் was a variant of Std. Tamil போதும் (enough, sufficient). Today a colleague used #Japanese 十分 (jūbun) for "enough". It's literally "ten parts">"whole/perfect">"enough"! Is Tamil பத்தும் "all of ten" பத்து+உம்? 🤯
