Oh completely, these are places where there's no tax authority collecting for them so people think they're saving. Then instead of paying 400 a year like we did to be covered, they pay 15k when something happens and their insurance doesn't cover it because they chose not to pay for coverage.

In some places there kind of are private firefighters.
Unincorporated parts of where I lived in AZ have something called Rural Metro. It's a private company, you pay an annual amount for it. If you don't pay, they still come but they bill you for the full price. It's a big difference.
