#Thursjay and the jays are spending lots of time taking care of their feathers.

Early morning photobomb, after the espresso, when you grab the camera before you have found the glasses. Or further notes on the abundance of young starlings this year, while pondering what has become of the leatherjackets (crane fly larvae) they usually favour.

Curiously clumsy juvenile starlings. Some already quietly self feeding. Mr. Blackbird busy working on brood no.2.
A bird with all black feathers, an orange eye ring and orange beak. The beak is full with three darkly blue berries. He is hunched over on the leaves of the Mahonia he has just plucked them from focused on fitting as many berries as possible into his beak without dropping any His beak and some of the leaves are stained by juice from the berries.

Great crested grebes for #twosday.
A pair of great crested grebes behind a curtain of sticks in the foreground. The female is out of the water sat on an assortment of sticks and vegetation in the middle left. One of my regular visitors who is distinguishable by the distinct head markings and beak
Same background as first picture but the jay is standing attentively upright, facing left with head tilted slightly right, beak closed. A minor beak deformity is visible in that the bottom half of the beak is slightly longer than the top.

Checking the weather for what to wear before heading out.
