I wrote it all out in a Facebook post, and unfortunately, I can't fit it in the alt text!
After you finish Ninja Gaiden 4, you're not only given full access to all stages with both characters, but: - Chapter Select has a full checklist of what stages you've completed, which characters you've done so as, what rankings you've done, and what difficulties you've completed it on, and whether or not you've done so without taking damage or not (Untouchable bonus). - Master Ninja difficulty is made available. - A new "Death Wish" mode is added, that removes all character upgrades and prevents you from using accessories, for an extra challenge. This is separate from difficulty. This is also marked on every single stage, on all four difficulties. - Purgatory Select is added to the main menu, and these stages are found throughout the game like Secret Missions in DMC5. Similarly to Chapter Select, there are checks for beating them as Yakumo, as Ryu, in Death Wish mode, and with the Untouchable bonus. Purgatories also have difficulties (Realm of Gods/Man/War/Beasts/Hunger/Hell. You start with less health, but are given more rewards for clearing it), and this menu also checks off which difficulty you've cleared for each Purgatory. - The Trials Mode is added, with Boss Trials and Combat Trials. Boss Trials allow you to simply select any of the bosses from the main story mode and fight them at your leisure, so you don't have to go back through an entire stage to do so. You also have Yakumo, Ryu, Death Wish, and Untouchable checks. All bosses also have a First Clear bonus in here, where you're rewarded a certain amount of NinjaCoin per boss. Also, there are four different difficulties for each trial, each with their own checklists and First Clear rewards. - Combat Trials have you completing missions with various objectives (like killing all enemies in the time limit, fighting waves of enemies with various hazards, etc.) reminiscent of DMC's Secret Missions. These only have one difficulty, but the Yakumo/Ryu/Death Wish/Untouchable checks are still present, and have First…

I'm genuinely pretty depressed at the news of Tomonobu Itagaki's passing.

DOA2 is one of the earliest fighters I've ever played, and it's still one of my favorites. While I liked Ninja Gaiden before, it wasn't until Itagaki's reboot that I loved it.

His work had a huge impact on me. Rest in peace.

Y'all, this game is pretty freaking fantastic. I played it for about 3 hours on stream today before switching back to Fatal Frame (because it's the spooky season), but I can't wait to hop back in.

Definitely worth picking up if you're into JRPGs. It's *chef's kiss*
