Ecologic Institute brought together an impressive combination of cases and individuals in the field of coastal EbA the last 2 days! I shared some insights from the 50mln EUR @blueactionfund.org EbA funding window in the WIO.
Also good to see some Blue Action projects present in the room and online 🙌🏼

Planet Indonesia, sub-grantee to @blueventures.bsky.social, helped form the first women-led mangrove patrol in Kubu Raya: Srikandi Bekantan.
“Srikandi” stands for courage; “Bekantan” (the proboscis monkey) for the fragile ecosystem they protect.
Women’s leadership = stronger conservation. 💪🌱

Alternative livelihood in the #GrantSpotlight below: sustainable mangrove honey production. Social Forestry Business Groups learned the 'tikung' technique, whereby an artificial branch or wooden beam is intentionally placed in the mangrove tree to encourage wild bees to build their nests naturally.

UThukela restoration team of @wildoceanssa.bsky.social works with community youth on removal of alien casuarina trees to help open the aMatigulu estuary mouth towards the ocean. When the river breaks through, it improves access for fishers and connectivity for fishes 🔄

We got our wellies dirty today: learning about carbon stock and sequestration assessments in the mangroves of Kosi Bay in iSimangaliso Wetland Park with @wildoceanssa.bsky.social (and Nelson Mandela University in the lab). Key 'Ecosystem-based Adaptation' aspect of this project.
