I finally saw No Other Choice (2025)! It is hilarious & poignant for our times of the working class struggling to find a job. Park Chan-wook is a top 3 director alive. God tier filmmaking. Lee Byung-hun is hysterical. Son Ye-jin is wonderful. The Academy will not see heaven for snubbing this film.
I loved Susanna Fogel’s espionage comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018). It’s very witty like Fogel’s comedy Life Partners. Mila Kunis is effortlessly hilarious. Kate McKinnon delivers her funniest performance ever. Fogel’s script has some killer jokes I was not expecting.

I had a blast revisiting Get Smart (2008). Anne Hathaway is hilarious and brings out the best in Steve Carell’s idiot spy. I miss when comedies use to have a joke every few seconds.

I am stunned by Chen Kaige’s Chinese historical romance drama epic Farewell My Concubine (1993). The most gorgeous costuming & makeup ever with lovely music & sets. Leslie Cheung is very moving as a young gay actor. He’s abused as a boy, to stardom, through the Communist change.

I loved Zhang Yimou’s Chinese crime drama Shanghai Triad (1995). Gong Li is stunning and touching as an unhappy mistress to a Triad boss. The whole story is told from the eyes of her young servant boy. Fascinating tragedy with breathtaking style.

I adored revisiting Zhang Ziyi’s debut as the lovely girl try by to impress a schoolteacher in Zhang Yimou’s legendary romance drama fairy tale The Road Home (1999). The stunning cinematography and tender romantic score are as sweet and sentimental as this touching tale of love.

I needed something light after today. Morning Glory (2010) is hilarious with a wonderful lead performance by Rachel McAdams.
January 31, 2026 at 3:02 AM
I had a blast seeing Sam Raimi’s return to horror with his absurdist horror-comedy Send Help (2026). Rachel McAdams is insanely hot and hilarious as resourceful survivalist heroine Linda. She is stuck on an island with Dylan O’Brien’s horrible boss. He is ridiculously funny.

I actually enjoyed the Western crime-comedy Americana (2025). Simon Rex, Zahn McClarnon, Eric Dane, and Halsey completely steal every scene away from the alright leads of Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser. It’s a wannabe Coen Bros movie, but fairly funny with a cool shootout.

I loved James Gray’s gritty crime drama We Own the Night (2007). No idea how this one escaped me. 3 of the most gripping sequences I’ve ever seen are in this film. Astounding performance from Joaquin Phoenix as usual. Mark Wahlberg is excellent too with more subtle acting.

I adored James Gray’s romance drama Two Lovers (2008). Incredibly moving and funny performance from Joaquin Phoenix. Gwyneth Paltrow and Vanessa Shaw are wonderful. It’s got to be my new favorite film from Gray.

I liked Nia DaCosta’s zombie horror drama 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026). Ralph Fiennes is wonderful as the caring Dr. Kelson. Jack O’Connell’s mad tyrant cult leader makes for a highly entertaining villain. It’s a bit slow in parts & needed more zombies. A killer ending!

I loved James Gray’s crime drama The Yards (2000). Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, Charlize Theron, & James Caan are fantastic. Gray uses shadows they are furniture. It looks incredible. I miss films looking this striking. The Yards is like Copland meets On the Waterfront.

I finally saw Wim Wenders’ moving drama Paris, Texas (1984). The stunning neo-Western visuals are mesmerizing. It’s often quite funny, then leads up to a shockingly heartbreaking finale that is captivating. Harry Dean Stanton’s best acting ever. Nastassja Kinski is enthralling.

I revisited Superbad (2007) and it’s still nuts. Christopher Mintz-Plasse totally steals the whole movie as McLovin. Michael Cera and Jonah Hill just go for broke on a quest for alcohol and girls. Such a great comedy.
January 20, 2026 at 2:18 AM
An Unfinished Life (2005) is very nice and heartwarming. Robert Redford and Jennifer Lopez are fantastic in this underrated drama film.
January 18, 2026 at 2:25 AM
I revisited This Is The End (2013) and it’s. blast! Sure, it is pretty stupid and silly, but the cast are so funny together. I actually miss when we used to get outrageous stoned comedies regularly. Shout out to Danny McBride & Craig Robinson for lowkey stealing their scenes.
January 17, 2026 at 2:16 AM
I adored Bradley Cooper’s heartfelt indie comedy-drama Is This Thing On? (2025). Will Arnett is legitimately mesmerizing and moving as this dad getting a divorce. He’s natural, subtle, funny, affecting. Laura Dern is fabulous. I loved Ciaran Hinds, Andra Day, & Bradley Cooper.
January 16, 2026 at 7:08 PM
I revisited Todd Phillips’ comedy The Hangover (2009). It is absolutely hilarious. I did not remember it well. Bradley Cooper is hysterical! Ed Helms, Zach G, Justin Bartha, Heather Graham, Ken Jeong, & Mike Tyson are a riot. What a wild and raunchy romp.

I enjoyed laughing at all of John Candy’s absurdist jokes throughout Paul Flaherty’s mystery-comedy Who’s Harry Crumb? (1989). It’s totally ridiculous with witty wordplay, sight gags galore, slapstick, and silly performances. The 80’s music is fun too. I think it’s underrated.
January 13, 2026 at 2:29 PM
I am shocked at how horrible TRON: ARES (2025) is with cheap green screen, absurd writing, boring characters, and no emotion. Nine Inch Nails doing a cool score cannot save this totally dull movie.
January 11, 2026 at 2:17 AM
John Candy & Rip Torn are hilarious in Carl Reiner’s vacation comedy Summer Rental (1985). I was surprised to see Kerri Green from The Goonies as Candy’s teenage daughter too! It’s so funny and silly.
January 10, 2026 at 1:48 AM
I enjoyed the bizarre and insane Western musical Paint Your Wagon (1969), wherein Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood sing and have a three person marriage with Jean Seberg. It’s a hilarious and outrageous comedy.
January 9, 2026 at 3:08 AM
John Candy is so hilarious in The Great Outdoors (1988). I have not seen this in years and it holds up. Candy is dearly missed. Dan Aykroyd is insane as the annoying brother-in-law, ruining Candy’s vacation. John Hughes wrote this one too.
January 3, 2026 at 1:39 AM
I’m finally saw Beautiful Boy (2018). This is easily one of the most moving films I’ve ever seen. Steve Carell delivers a deeply empathetic performance as a father of an addict. Timothée Chalamet is devastating as a heroin addict, who keeps relapsing despite his best efforts.
