like HW all the way through to EW have a throughline of 'we can't actually engage with systematic problems we have to defeat Problems Satan and that'll fix things'

EW's 'depression is actually only a problem because of Bird Satan, and we killed it now, so everything is fine' jesus fucking christ

a lot of my problems were also down to English ff14 refusing to let men have negative emotions that aren't anger! I enjoyed it a lot more when I played through again in JP and Hermes got to have actual emotions!

the story still sucks dog ass though!!!

remembering going through elpis for the first time with this growing feeling of 'oh. I've been invested in this story for years and it's just going to end as a big nothing, huh. okay.'

then it made my character go 'nooooo seven omnicides guy my best friend don't diiiiie' and I checked out entirely

(sorry the 'rate the ff14 expansions' trend going around again is reminding me how much i loathe the ishikawa era of 14's writing with all my heart and soul)

and in that context you can sort of get an okay character out of emit-squelch, this dude puppeted into atrocity after atrocity by his god who, in his moment of death, gets to show tenderness and familiarity and appreciation to you for freeing him from it all

but no he was just like that huh
