Alhammra went into liquidation in Spain in 2022 and Baayo announced his resignation on Facebook the following year.

Meanwhile his presidential ambitions have yet to be tested — elections have been repeatedly delayed.

Baayo allegedly used company money to:

💰Make a down payment on a Madrid apartment
💰Pay medical expenses
💰Pay rent on behalf of the deputy PM

There is no indication that Baayo was ever charged in Libya and a complaint filed against him in Spain was ultimately withdrawn by the plaintiffs.

When Baayo announced his 2021 presidential election bid, he was a businessman leading Alhammra Company Spain — a Spanish firm owned by Libya’s sovereign wealth fund.

But by this time, multiple official bodies had accused him of mismanaging Alhammra funds.
