The biggest outlier here is Queens, which had a full network redesign earlier this year with the goal of making routes faster by avoiding slow turns and close stop spacing.

This is already done. It's only comparing bus stops used by the same line in the same direction. Otherwise, the closest stops would all be across the street from each other serving different routes/directions.

Here's the MBTA (with rail and boat stops removed)

Notice how many of the inefficiently close stops are in Brooklyn. The good news is that the MTA has plans to streamline the Brooklyn bus network in a similar fashion to what rolled out in Queens earlier this year. The bad news is that it has been in planning for years: www.mta.info/project/broo...

A map of the closest bus stops in New York City: google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1GSm6Eq5rtiBotl2bSx6rsUuzXHAIHfs

The data is straight from GTFS, so a bit messy/inaccurate in places. But many of the ultra-close bus stops are real.
NYC Close Bus Stops - Google My Maps
NYC bus stops with less than 100 meters (330ft) spacing and bus stops with less than 150 meters (500ft) spacing. Data is straight from GTFS and contains errors — however, many are real stop pairs.

The two closest stops in New York City are just 40 meters apart from each other: WILSON AV/GREENE AV and WILSON AV/BLEECKER ST on the B60 southbound. You can see both the stops in this Street View image.

The Queens bus network redesign altered the stop distribution in the borough significantly, moving the modal stop spacing closer to 300 meters (1000 ft).

Los Angeles has a strong mode at 0.25 miles (~400 meters), thanks to the Jefferson Grid.

Brighter colors are closer stops.

Does that mean new slow zones are coming?

Why does he want single family
