They made a mini gurney for my ankle as they lifted me, screening, onto the actual gurney. The remainder of my walk in the park was strapped on a gurney & hating every bump.

Trimalleolar fracture, oblique and vertical.

First bone I've ever broken in my life. Radiologist called me an overachiever.

Woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. My sister was looking for me and had just spotted me. My youngest was with her and sirens could be heard approaching in the distance. I sat up & explained that my ankle was broken.

I still couldn't lift it off the ground. An ambulance & firetruck arrived.

That's when I heard the voice of an angel who looked like your typical PNW elderly woman ask if I needed help. Relief washed over me as I tried to explain. My vision blurred. I argued with them that I didn't need an ambulance.

Then I passed out.

Looking up the hill, I knew I needed to get back up to the path so I pulled myself up the hill through the leaves in the rain. I got my phone & called my sister, telling her I needed help, my leg was broken, and gave her instructions on where to find me.

"Follow the path!"

I pulled myself up more.

When I stopped I sat up & rapidly checked myself to make sure I was okay everywhere else before directing my attention to my ankle, lying prone on the ground. I tried lifting my leg & screamed. I couldn't lift it off the ground at all.

Knew it was broken. Knew it the second I felt & heard it snap.

But then my left foot started sliding on the leaves, down the slope. I tried to ground my step by pushing down firmly only to hear a sound like a gunshot crack. I managed to ease onto my side as I slid down, leg first, the slope to near the water's edge.

Something red caught my eye and it was an even prettier mushroom. I trudged my way through the leaves on the ground to take a few pictures of it. But then, I saw another even more beautiful mushroom just a little bit further away.

As I walked along the path, I spotted a tremendous orange and cream mushroom the size of a salad plate. In awe, I ventured off of the path to take a picture of it.

The rain was coming down in a nice drizzle, making everything misty and vaguely ominous. I should've turned back but did I?

No.

Lol, just got rescheduled.

Thank you. Insurance company insisted it take place at the same hospital as my fusion so I'll be in seasoned hands for the anesthesiologist and more, which is very comforting. They kept me alive for a 6 hour surgery, this will be a piece of cake for them.

Yep. Large amounts of horrible things being exacted upon the world make it incredibly difficult to keep up and respond to it all.

Or a guardian angel realizing that those beautiful mushrooms had already claimed a victim. 😂

Mhm. My daughter checked to see if it was still there but apparently somebody decided the fairy circle had to go 😂

*Attempted killer mushroom photo. 😂

Thank you! It wasn't even the more amazing mushroom that I was trying to photograph... Funny thing is I'm bemoaning not getting that shot despite breaking a leg over it. 😂
