Using bred horses for performance is inherently higher risk than riding a calm cob down a quiet road, usually no faster than a trot.
Of course this excludes the hunting and racing uses, which were rife with horrible injuries to rider and horse.

Extrapolating from my own experience of riding quarter horse jumpers (calm, steady) in HS with basically no injuries, then jumping thoroughbreds (screw loose) in college and racking up the concussions, I would think it would depend on the type of horse and use.

Moved next to Haiti where it took way too long to realize I had allergic to conch, which appears in MANY dishes there so lots of barfing around that beautiful country too, including out the window of a moving car, over a cliff on the road from Cap Haitien. Scenic!

Got amoebas almost immediately after moving to Niger and sent so many letters to my friend about different places I'd thrown up around the country that she designed a cover for my (non-existent) memoir and titled it "Puking Through Niger."
