Photos from the 2 White Tailed Eagles over Studland earlier today, unfortunately poor light and shooting into the sun meant some rather creative editing, maybe after the festive break someone can confirm the rings @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @dorsetraptors.bsky.social

We've managed to read the BTO ring number of the adult female from this years' live hobby nest camera. EZ92156. Ringed by DRSG in 2019 as a chick at another F.E. site 8.5 miles away. To think she will have travelled at least 50,000 miles migrating alone!

Poole (Dorset) peregrines have been very active in the higher nest box recently. Adult male and female spending considerable time at the box and the male recorded scraping. This year's juvenile male (HG) is still present. If he is still around in Mar/April will he help or hinder?...we'll see.

Time to put an end to this madness.
Hen Harrier Susie, whose chicks were stamped to death on a Yorkshire Dales grouse moor in 2022, has been found dead on a N Pennines grouse moor with gunshot injuries.

18+ months of silence about this crime from the police & Natural England.

Brilliant piece debunking the nonsense claim in the Daily Telegraph. But it’s dangerous nonsense, polarising attitudes & whipping up prejudice.

The DTelegraph is such a shit newspaper. Oh, and the photo? Staged - captive eagle, already-dead lamb.

Having been lucky enough to photograph Osprey at close quarters in the wild (not in a hide) I managed to get an extreme close up of their talons in action. The bird fished about 25’ away from me giving this view of its spicules which help keep hold of the slippery pray #osprey @ukoi.bsky.social #bird

Was out yesterday checking on some fledged hobby chicks from a brood we ringed on an urban fringe heathland site. All three chicks doing well. Won't be long before they head off on migration. The latest I have seen a family still at this site is 6th Oct. but most will be gone 2 weeks before this.
