Yet another gplus refugee (sniff)

"..liberty is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism." --- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Well, I guess I will go back to reading. The book has what seems like an appropriate title, "Days of Shattered Faith." Maybe you've heard of it? 😜

I have mine set to super strict filtering and a lot of crap still gets through. Resorting to filters (which is time consuming).

Far as I can tell, it's true in New York City. And a Dem aligned group I worked with was nearly all older white women volunteers. The paid staff for the organization are diverse, but the people on the ground all across the country are old white women.

Well, those are better for tossing anyway (assuming firm ones). My mom once made matzo balls that bounced.

Hmmm. I was curious about NY, so I checked. Latest I could find was 2023 numbers. We sent $320.1 billion in federal taxes and got back $337.9 billion in federal spending. So slightly ahead, but not by a lot.

I was traveling back to the US from overseas long ago, while recovering from food poisoning (thanks a lot UK turkey). The customs agent insisted on opening everything, including wrapped gifts, to make sure the poor college student was not smuggling who knows what.

NY Times currently says:

Aftyn Behn: 37,556 52.9%
Matt Van Epps 32,561 45.9%

That's 44% of the vote counted.

When I was little, I was out with my grandparents and ordered some fancy adult food (can't recall what). The waiter sniffed that my choice didn't come in "children's portions." My grandpa, the world's sweetest man, snapped back, "Nobody asked for children's portions."
