Look, that’s totally fair. I’m sure we agree that it’s depraved that anyone would support this at all. But my sense is that this is about as fast as American public opinion ever moves on an established issue. These days, it’s astonishing when it responds to events at all.

I’m not sure what you’re looking at, but here’s what I see: a position that a year ago was a fringe among Democrats is now nearly unanimous among Democrats, favored by a majority of independents, and even considered by a small slice of Republicans.
