Obsessed these days with the mysteries of the metaphorical Shostakovich's Violin Sonata, dedicated to David Oistrakh. I am looking forward to conducting the orchestra version with violinist @igorpikayzen and @sinfoniatoronto on Sept 27. It will be the Canadian premiere of the orchestral version.

It's an understatement to say how much I'm looking forward to SinfoniaToronto's Sunny's Beethoven concert. There are two great composers on the program- Beethoven & Shostakovich. They lived centuries apart, and yet the two works on our May3concert have such similaritiesinspiteofhavingdifferentforms.

The tariffs imposed on #Canada have only one purpose, which was clearly articulated by the dictator south of the border: use economic force in order to annex Canada. It's an act of war!

Kudos to Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz referencing the Tiananmen Square. The military looks of Musk's Teslas are reminiscent of the ugly, imposing architecture of dictatorial regimes.

Avoid buying #us brands and enjoy your #holidays in #Canada. Cancel any non-essential travel to #usa. This dumbest ever #tradewar is an existential threat to Canada. Make no mistake, he wants Canada to make his own mark on #history. He needs a major legacy item to camouflage his own criminal past.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of #violinist Ayla Erduran. Back in #Istanbul I attended many of her #concerts. She was a brilliant performer with a magnetic stage presence and a wonderful human being. I will always remember her Sibelius concerto. Rest in peace Ayla.
