Checking in to check out today's #AT40 from 1977-12-10. Without any pre-reveals, I expect I'll be into a higher percentage of this week's hits than the WOC from several days ago. In the meantime, a 100th birthday shoutout to one of my all-time faves in tv/movies, etc.: DICK VAN DYKE!

Fixed: I had forgotten one of Michael Henderson's lps in my earlier photo ...

Nice! Elton John's 'Sorry Seems...' #19, 1976-11-27 #AT40 I hadn't owned any Elton John albums since the 1970s, but bought these two limited-edition Dolby ATMOS reissues recently. The 'Captain' is fantastic, & the elaborate hits collection refreshes my memory to some underrated (by me) later hits!

What will end up being my fave hit of this 1976-11-27 #AT40 is one I praise every time it appears on the countdown, Norman Connors' 'You Are My Starship' with the late, great Michael Henderson on vocals & bass (#37). Iconic bassist with Miles Davis who cut 7 lps between 1976-1986. I got 'em all!

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

(as with every year I have multiple choices to choose from. Herbie Hancock's 'Head Hunters' is a perfectly perfect album re: '73)

As this 1975-10-18 #AT40 comes to an end, I recall that even though pop radio was not the influence on me that it once was, there are a LOT of '75 lps that 50 years later stay on my "Albums that I remember the year by" list. I'm sure I missed a few personal faves (later add-ons allowed). As of now:

I did have "Live At Leeds" back in 1970 (but no longer do; I haven't had a vinyl turntable for several decades either). Besides all the extras, I admired that the cover was inspired by some of the 1st generation of bootlegs, including this Rolling Stones lp (several local stores stocked boots).

When I state a preference for early-70s #AT40, it's because my list of personal fave albums is much more fully represented in the early-70s than later. As the decade continued, my tastes & pop radio got less in-sync. Even so, a few cuts from lp's on my list are on this week's program (1979/05/26).

Did a little research on my #AT40 original exposure because I think I started listening very early on via the appropriately-named KACY-AM (Oxnard CA). Maybe not the first one, but very soon thereafter. Found this blip from the 1970/10/10 issue of Billboard confirming KACY & other initial stations.
