I think all jobs in game dev require soft skills, but I think most of that gets put on producers. Talking and communicating to other people is the majority of my job (and the part I love the most), which is why my biggest pet peeve is being asked to ideate in isolation.

I’ll die on the hill of “game design is a soft skills job, actually.” It needs everyone aligned on and excited about the thing we’re making together.

A big part of my job as a designer is making sure that everybody is seeing the same thing in their brain throughout development, and correcting whenever we discover our brains are envisioning different things.

May I recommend adding a slice of tomato in there as a penance for decadence, the same way one might add frozen peas to their mac and cheese.

“This is healthy now,” I say out loud to an empty apartment, tears spattering on the stovetop. “Now this is healthy.”

It’s almost as if art is a means of connecting with others, and has a particular draw to those who feel outside of how human connection is “supposed” to work.

Almost as if art itself is a neurodivergent act of expression. Orthogonal to the typical.

I worry we’re not teaching enough social media literacy for people to understand that when you post in a public space, literally any human in the world is capable of seeing it. “My post breached containment” is not a thing. There’s no containment on a public platform.
