Always thought I was an average crastinator but according to my wife I'm a pro.
Bad jokes, poker and rugby, with occasional soccer, books and NI politics thrown in for the craic
When you and your wife speak both I imagine that's a real challenge to try to get them to speak in the 'correct' language to you when its so easy to just go along with it

Cheers Neil, nice to hear practical experience of that and how it worked. Will have to get practicing again if I'm to teach them anything. My 2nd randomly asked me to teach her the other week so I've been flying blindly along hoping for the best

Which sounds like an OK method. I'm trying to teach my wee ones a bit of Irish, which isn't helped by the fact I've not spoken it regularly for far too long

Yea we're shocking for our languages here so the novelty of kids being bilingual would take a while to wear off.
As an aside, and not to take away from your baking time, how did they learn the 2 languages? I've heard a theory of parent A speaking 1 language and parent B speaking the other to them

For all their qualities, the Germans don't seem to have that chat you get with random shop workers here.
That said, you clearly aren't meant to have time to chit chat with the innumerable levels of cake you've to be making

Poor checkout smalltalk there indeed, someone over here would have said something like 'ffs Gaston would you ever leave some eggs for the rest of the village!'

The Tierney one especially is spot on

The language barrier will be hilarious

Ended up being much more heavily invested in that result than I thought. Woke the baby up when KT banged that one in
November 18, 2025 at 10:01 PM
You'll have the Scots asking you to do the same shortly lol

Its definitely got progressively less colourful as I've grown up. Can't remember much colour outside of sports jerseys at Queens in the mid 2000s and less so ever since
November 18, 2025 at 2:30 PM
We have to get to at least the midlife crisis before we're allowed colours, it's just the rules

Yra France were always gonna get their act together after those years of shambles, and their depth is insane, while NZ live and breathe rugby like Kilkenny people live and breathe hurling
November 18, 2025 at 1:55 PM
They've basically made Cardiff an NFT (remember those)
November 18, 2025 at 1:47 PM
In all seriousness though, that's an impressive record. Scotland and Wales feel like a gimme now, which was far from the case not that long ago

The generational grudge against England is there as an incentive for Ireland too, but I think that energy works best in a chaotic skirmish type of game, which is peak Scotland. I agree that Ireland's measured approach doesn't work so well against England because the packs match that game type better

It's maddening how keen some people are to anoint him the chosen one that they'll twist themselves in knots to turn a good performance into Dan Carter vs the Lions in 2005
November 18, 2025 at 10:32 AM
Those are rookie numbers vs Scotland though
November 18, 2025 at 9:51 AM
The win % is incredible for the number in the playing pool. The usual gripe is still valid, in that once he either goes himself or plays lads beyond their expiry date, is that the win % could fall off a cliff. For all his detractors, Borthwick is doing that bit much better

Reminding me of early UFC/ Pride days when it was a circus with freakshow fights
November 18, 2025 at 9:45 AM
10/10 would watch this if it was on TV

No surprise to you I'm sure but the Russell comp is so flawed. The drop off behind Finn is a chasm so you have to take those intercepts as coming with the territory, but Crowley is literally right there for Ireland, doing everything at least as good as Sam, while playing flatter to the line
November 18, 2025 at 9:34 AM
I think regardless of making changes it's clear Townsend has butchered Scotland's best generation in my memory. Next man up, whenever that is, will suffer for the fact Finn Russell is coming to the end, and the drop off from him is huge. Similarly with Dempsey and Schoeman

I think people overlooked him given his frame and the fact Farrell was hot property as they both came through, but I think he's a great 10. Can play different styles, great game manager, and the conservative style Borthwick plays now suits that instead of someone more flash
