Transit, cities, urbanism, diaspora, abundance, fighting climate change, etc.
this is up there amongst talking to a native Cajun French speaker and a native New Mexican Spanish speaker. Pretty soon those speech communities will be gone

Is this Metra Electric? What station is this? I'm surprised to see commuter rail running in the middle of travel lanes (though I imagine there's a buffer between them)

what is it about those cost structures / financial health issues that make it so much more expensive than transit? I'm only familiar with transit (FTA-regulated) cost structures

I have a paperwhite and it's been great. I do like physical books but I've read so much more with a kindle because of how portable it is. I also feel less guilty about buying books I don't read because they don't take up space. I don't love the DRM restrictions tho (vs physical books)

looking forward to this podcast! I've also been frustrated by the rational/logical frame that many climate activists take. This (and politics in general) is much more than and am excited to hear someone talk about it

Re fires injured 2 people, traffic crashes 694,

I could imagine FD officials rebutting this by saying that the reason the fire injury late is lower is because they can respond to fires quickly. Is there a way to get total fire calls vs total traffic calls?

what's the reason for this? I also remember that Pittsburgh's transit advocacy org was pretty against stop consolidation

I understand climate change is a serious issue but reading articles like this - and the resulting inaction - makes it feel kind of hopeless. I can sense my mind tuning out. Surely there's a better way to communicate the reality that inspires hope, and action instead of apathy?

Is there a promo code? When I view it on IslandPress it's still full price

All the streets near City Hall are included, as per (1)(b). All of Center City is included basically

Wouldn't it be best to not publicize the people over parking provisions of the bill until it gets a signature from the gov? Otherwise you may risk inviting backlash. Apologies if he's already signed it

was also similarly disappointed at the lack of stop consolidation. NYC MTA has been slow at adopting better stop spacing

This is also an easy story to tell and could easily be spun into how business-friendly Jack will increase your electricity prices by letting data centers proliferate unchecked!

isn't T the internal name for the 2nd Ave Subway? Maybe it's connected to that

France had this same issue post-war (massive 20-30%+ decreases in ridership), but they elected to give transit agencies more funding via payroll taxes and now French transit is really great. Transit ballot measures also tend to win, I think transit is broadly popular
