We commend APLN’s leadership in amplifying this issue and urge all states, especially those with nuclear capabilities, to reaffirm their commitment to the testing moratorium and to take steps toward bringing the CTBT into force.

The consequences of nuclear testing are not theoretical. Communities around the world, from the Pacific Islands to Central Asia, continue to live with the health, environmental, and economic impacts of past tests. These realities remind us why the global consensus against nuclear testing must hold.

NTI strongly shares this concern. The world has benefited from a sustained moratorium on nuclear testing since the late 1990s, supported by the near-universal adoption of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. Undermining that achievement would not strengthen security; it would erode it.
