Adding to my 2025 reads book list. Finished Reel by @kennedyryan.bsky.social and loved it, like everything else she writes, because of how richly and full of nuance she writes female characters in particular.

Nearly done with this gorgeously written (albeit painful) beauty as well. Robert Jones Jr’s The Prophets is necessary reading.

I loved This Thing of Ours by Frederick Joseph — so much warmth+ love in this story of friendship, resistance+ self-discovery. One of those books that confronts a lot w/o feeling impossible, providing a springboard to teach + talk w young ppl about racism, homophobia, book banning + social justice.

I loved this @kennedyryan.bsky.social so, so much. Such lush character development and lots of spice. Can’t wait for my next by her.

Devouring important reads on vacation. This collection by Frederick Joseph was raw, unfiltered, essential. Heart-breaking too. I’ll be thinking about these essays for a long time.

Important, place-based (NYC) storytelling, rife with the sad realities of injustice, against a backdrop of the COVID 19 pandemic. Beautiful poetry and prose. If you teach young people especially, I recommend. @mobrowne.bsky.social

Lots of twists and turns in this romance-filled, layered thriller. @aishasaeed.bsky.social adult debut didn’t disappoint.

Family labsites in LA and Orange County California were such a resounding success last week. I’m looking forward to ongoing shared literacy experiences with children and families, elevating their at-home, authentic language practices in classrooms too. Devouring the new memoir by Hala Alyan. It’s a unique experience to read your good friend’s memoir. I’ve heard lots of these stories, but the way she has woven this story destroys me in the best of ways. My heart. Preorder: www.simonandschuster.com/books/Ill-Te...

Same As it Ever Was by Claire Lombardo was excellent. Fiction writing/ family saga at its finest. I LOVE the way she writes- so observant, so emotional. Her previous book (The Most Fun We Ever Had) was also fantastic.
