RIP bassist Tetsu Yamauchi, who replaced Ronnie Lane in Faces. He also served in the band Free, among other groups.

Fine gig tonight at the Beat Kitchen by Chicago band The Gunshy, led by Matt Arbogast, for their new album Hurricane
Umbrellas.

@ryanfromohio.bsky.social I thought you’d enjoy seeing my sister-in-law’s koozie from our jointly neighboring state

Yes, I can confirm it’s shown at his concerts, though I don’t recall it being at the beginning. I didn’t manage to get a photo of it myself, but here are a couple I did get.

I was enticed by this fine-condition Terry Southern paperback in a local emporium. I didn’t buy it, but when I walked out I put my headphones back on & continued listening to the new Waterboys album. The very next lyrics Mike Scott sang were “Blues for Terry Southern/Blues for Terry Southern”

It doesn’t happen often, but you know a Zappa kick has reached serious heights when I get this indispensable 1995 tome back out.

Thanks to my friend who got me into the fantastic gig by The Saints ‘73-‘78 with Mark Arm on lead vocals last week. I’ve only been a casual fan of the Australian punk originators, but having seen him play live co-founding member Ed Kuepper is now one of my guitar heroes. Arm was incredible on vox.

I enjoyed a weird autumnal walk tonight immediately next to the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago. I’d not been on this path before.

I don’t get to many shows these days, but on Saturday in Chicago I saw Lubbock-to-L.A. avant Renaissance man Terry Allen, maybe the last living act on my list of must-sees I hadn’t seen yet. Fantastic experience. Here he is with son Bukka on accordion.

Snow shocker that unfolded in Chicago beginning around midnight.

RIP Gilson Lavis, original drummer of Squeeze. I always liked him, in part because he looked like he could be one of my father’s workmates.

Here is the statue I keep talking about. He’s some sort of old dispenser. This guy is gonna save my life somehow.

Happy Halloween from war zone Chicago.

RIP monster jazz drummer and all-around metaphysician dude Jack DeJohnette. His résumé is a zillion pages long, and of course he played on many Miles albums including my favorite On the Corner, but this evening I’m spinning these other goodies that he drums on.

What it's like inside my head (turn it up!) I was thrilled to get this quad outlet installed a couple of years ago so all of my stereo components could be plugged in at once; I immediately played Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music on 8-track)

Fun fact: the apartment where Al Pacino holes up while working undercover in William Friedkin’s 1980 movie Cruising is immediately to the right of where Bob Dylan is standing on the cover of his 1963 album The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.
