When I'm not avidly doom-scrolling I am gardening, hiking, making and studying textile arts, making digital art related to nature, being one of the "ladies who lunch" with close friends and asking my cat what I can do to make her more comfortable.
When she goes circular we know we are looking forward to several hours of not being managed or interrupted. A good long catnap is expected. Any other position means she will become restless soon and demand food or attention. #caturday

here's the current little bit of illegal propaganda featured on the usda.gov website:

Nova has been known to sleep with one eye open “just in case”. She’s missing one hind leg and sleeps with the other sticking straight out. If you say “how’s your tail” when she is asleep it thumps automatically.

daisy tree, from the bottom looking up. It really is a tree, or a large rangy perennial shrub, I forget what its scientific name is. It makes a great substitute for the sunflowers that I plant and either they die or a squirrel eats them before the seeds have even matured.

my new hobby, making collages of protest signs. Here are a few from the April 19 Berkeley #TeslaTakedown. #digital_collage. The rest of them here: y-knotblog.blogspot.com/2025/04/prot....

Moth, photo from last summer in Occidental, CA. Hyles lineata according to Wikipedia, aka white-lined sphinx or hummingbird moth #insectThursday. These critters are big, with a wingspan wider than my hand.

Violet in her usual judgmental mood, lying down on the table where she knows she doesn't belong, just to see if she can get away with it.

Here are some of my protest poster collages from last Saturday's Hands Off protest in Berkeley. More, and larger versions, can be found on my blog, y-knotblog.blogspot.com/2025/04/prot.... #handsOff2025

A very large water droplet collected on a water-repellant kale leaf. Cabbages and kales and broccoli are great for holding water after a rain.

Now is not the time to curl up and sleep, now is the time to speak out. happy #Caturday, folks. See you on the streets (not Nova, she's strictly an indoor cat!) #HandsOff2025

Here you go, one inspirational ray of sunshine and my cat, Nova, giving what I call her "big, fangy yawn" and doing her morning stretch. I will turn the yawn into a meme some day soon....I also can have difficulty sleeping; vigorous exercise during the day helps, also reading nature journals.

protest poster collage from March 29 Berkeley #TeslaTakedown. Two more to follow in comments....Unless someone is officially giving a speech I try to avoid including faces in my photos....

One of those cheaply made outside chairs that are stacked high in Target in the spring. The mesh seat gets sun damaged after two years and rips. I cut out the rest of the seat and make a new woven seat out of clothesline. It should last now until the metal legs rust out. #DIY #repair_and_reuse

Nova is missing one of her hind legs, having tangled with a pit bullish dog in her youth. She therefore does some rather odd things with her remaining hind leg, like sleeping with it stretched out straight, captured by her front paw. She does appreciate a good nap! #caturday #catsofbluesky #cats

Nova, on the other hand, sometimes has her suspicions that things are not right. But as long as the cat food cans keep coming, she's not as worried as she should be.....

and one more. This last sign on the top left really has me thinking about all of the young and bright and capable people who will now have to move to other countries to work in their fields of study. Our loss, their gain. Psst, fit in time for foreign language study, folks....

Some digital collages I made from the signs at the San Francisco #standupforscience2025 rally yesterday. I've become very careful not to share faces of protesters, but I have started a collection of the best signs. I love how we use humor and irony to make our point in protests.

Showing up for the #teslatakedown in Berkeley today

I'm pretty sure this is a crabapple. I have a tradition now of going to a local restaurant, eating a too-big brunch (enjoying every bite) and then walking some of it off in the nearby neighborhood. This is one of my discoveries. #blueskyartshow #spring #cellphonephotography

wow! I went to YouTube, hit the "subscriptions" button hopping to see my large collection of people I follow and got a screen filled with this, which I have never heard of and would never subscribe to! See alt text for more detail. Feel like I've been pulled into the down-under....

Fading fast, just enough energy left to post these repeat circles, created in iOrnament and colored and turned into grain brushes in Procreate. Wish I had more to say but need to go back to reading M. Atwood's The Testaments.
