A room with a sociological view.
What you say about hypercapitalism reminds me of something I wrote last year. Kinda ties in:

Well, I've been annoyed at her insistence of *not* labeling our current political moment fascism — she's hung up on a technicality about classic fascism's economic structure. novapsyche.substack.com/p/this-is-fa...

I bet you weren't referring to that, though. 🙃

He's been giving this excuse for months. He used it to great effect when it came to the Maxwell interiew.

Reporters need to counter this denial, either in the moment or via an explainer column that examines the mechanism of the excuse, so audiences can see the con. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWLS...

No, the author's over at Jamelle Bouie's thread, defending the piece. bsky.app/profile/aras...
Of course they don't! I actually said that even if there was a fuller process, she might still have to lose her job (certainly not work in a front-of-the-house position.) All I am saying is that we shouldn't celebrate summary dismissals and there should be involvement by trade unions/workers' bodies

Are you aware that if one is fired, one is not eligble for unemployment?

Now, if you want to argue for universal basic income, that's a different discussion. We can have that discussion.

This article is written for what audience? 🤔

This piece passed editorial muster? How?

Regardless of their views, but not irrespective of their (in this case, abusive) behavior.

One may have an abstract principle one upholds as an ideal and still treat individual situations with nuance w/r/t context.

The standard that should be upheld here is respect for human dignity.

I honestly don't know what Rufo expected. The model is set: ragebait and drama-farming are monetized.

The current skirmish between Candace Owens & Erika Kirk is the RW equivalent of WWE. For the home audience, the catfight is catnip.

For decades, the right forwent attacks on erstwhile allies. Instead it focused on outside villains, now a tired script.

Audiences are thrilled to see conflict among people they know well. It's juicy! That it's being painted as a "RW civil war" makes the drama even more poignant. They're invested.

Amazingly, Rufo is unaware that the lifeblood of RW extremist movements is conspiracy. The lingua franca is gossip and rumor.

The copy at AP News has been hella suspicious lately. The bias favorable to Trump is not flamboyant, but it is noticeable. If you randomly sample political news articles over the last month or so, you might detect it yourself.

It's the next grift. COVID showed these hucksters just how much could be made selling snake oil.

(This also explains why there's a push to get conversion therapy returned to the marketplace. "Cures" for traits that are permanent are a great way to get people to sink money indefinitely.)
