I understand the panic but I also feel that this perspective is consistent with a media practical approach to technology, if we scrap the "artificial intelligence" part (which we should) and treat these things as information retrieval tools, then it's all about practices of use, tactics, bricolage

you can't build a pedagogical edifice around quantification and optimization and then expect students to not rely on the latest technologies of quantification and optimization to go through the system

It is honestly very minimally different from what I used to do (Googling stuff, reading a couple of books or articles and cobbling together some passages), and I am willing to bet this has consistently been the case throughout history

so my reaction to this is: cool. They are reading (skimming) a lot, compiling information, following links, cross-prompting, cobbling together solutions to problems (assignments) in the most optimal way for their current predicament (neoliberal uni), who am I to blame them
