up until this game, the only title i've played that's given me the complete freedom to ignore the entirety of the main objective was Breath of the Wild. i loved that game because i never once had to do any of the story whatsoever. that ruled! i never even completed any of the main dungeons

this game has been a really nice change of pace from Trails FC! i've been craving the kind of game that lets you wander around and kinda do whatever and it's delivering on that and then some...

i like the stipulation that any prospective nugget chauffer should have a license. like i could volunteer but i could not guarantee your survival

it might be the slowest burn to ever burn, even down to the combat, (i think you really only get access to fun battle tools after Joshua learns Flicker) but i have nothing but admiration for just how convicted Trails FC is in making you slow down, chill out, and enjoy the ride.

time earning the right to be trusted with more important work. it lends itself a LOT of time to get really granular with the characters and the world they inhabit, and it all amounts to making that final conflict so much more compelling, because you're really invested by the end!

and especially since i was so desperately seeking a change of pace from my usual style of game, i ended up really enjoying my time, even with the first half feeling like the characters you're following are doing nothing but dinky little tasks. the narrative also justifies why you're spending so much
November 24, 2025 at 8:27 AM
even though that might seem like a criticism, i really admired just how much time the game was willing to spend setting its tone and letting you get comfortable with the cast! i guess it makes sense, you don't fill that many games' stories out without being willing to take things slow...

and boy, a Narratively-Driven Experience this was... i didn't really know a lot about the franchise going in, only enough to know i had to start with FC. i knew it was the kind of game that took a while to really get going, but i genuinely didn't know it would take like. the entire first half,,,

i'm basically always down to play a game whose main focus is gameplay first and foremost. a lot of my favorite titles are games where the narratives are, in most cases, largely a formality. i've been wanting to branch out into more narratively-driven experiences, so i thought i'd give it a try :3

this results in an absolute behemoth of an ongoing narrative, where i've heard a lot of the draw for sticking with the series is being rewarded for paying attention along every step! in that regard, it's way WAY different from the kinds of titles i tended to favor-

for those uninitiated, the Trails series is mostly known for the absolutely gargantuan level of detail and attention paid to its world and setting, with all of its titles taking place within the same world, and with a definitive chronology that remains consistent throughout every entry.
