Yeah, happens all the time. There’s a joke over here after someone said that maybe if you stopped eating avocado on toast you could save up and buy a place, for example. It often slides into shaming ppl for being poor real easy.

Yeah, I get that. I have the same experience with David Lynch films to a degree. The only one there I genuinely like is Elephant Man. But also, I like writing about why I don’t think something works. Sometimes it makes it seem like I hate a thing more than I do.

Nah, I genuinely like him. He’s made a lot of good films. I just don’t think this is one of them. It’s a shame. But sometimes directors make films that don’t work, just as writers write bad books, etc

Most awards are more fail than win, I reckon so it’s not much dif to those in that regard. I don’t mind the international one they do. Sometimes there’s an author i haven’t heard of there.

I got back and forth with the Booker. Every now and then it’ll have something I’m into them and then for five or six years I just won’t care for it at all. But the quality will be passable, I guess, even if I got no interest

I’m sure it’s passable. It won this year’s Booker. But it’s about masculinity, and has a stripped back narrative to capture that essence of male conversation… it sounds awful really. But I’m sure it’s passable for what it is.

Well, I mean, now I think you should watch it, then report back

But with the said, I don’t know that it’s fair to blame the actor since that part of the film is just a step down you know?

Yeah, there was a definite step down when Isaac wasn't on screen

I've only seen him in Saltburn so I'm not overly familiar with him. But he seemed to do what was asked, you know?

yeah, ennoble it is a good term for what he wants to do. and i agree with the victor's coming out of nowhere - the whole end just feels unearned, really.
November 18, 2025 at 4:26 AM
yeah, you know, fair

Shape of Water has more in common with Pan's Labyrinth than some of the others, but it's hard to recommend if you havne't liked any of the other stuff. But this... yeah, this isn't going to change your mind.

I'm sure it's reasonable. It's not my thing so I don't see myself buying it. But every time I read about it someone makes it sound like absolute trash.
