Don't know about you, but I'm starting to get the sneaking suspicion that people aren't always as good at things as they claim or as their professional titles might suggest.

Just sit for a moment and take in this UI abomination.

Your eyes aren't fooling you. That visual vomit is the toolbar and its text-based buttons being transparently backdropped by... scrolling text.

So let me join the pile-on: Good riddance, Alan Dye.

The city street sweepers came through to collect all the curbside leaves.

Two neighbors across the street moved their cars to our side to clear access. They never moved them back.

I then experienced the transcendental bliss of watching the sweeper completely bypass our house to avoid their cars.

To me, Wikipedia is perhaps the best and, sadly, last great example of everything the WWW promised.

It's flawed, yes, like anything that humans touch. But its flaws are nothing compared to its value as an accessible, readable, traceable repo of wide-ranging info.

I have yet to come across a theater review in the Spokesman-Review from the last, say, five years (and that's probably being conservative) that gives any production anything less than 3,000 stars and 600 thumbs up.

I've lost count of the visual glitches & questionable design choices in macOS Tahoe. The image below shows stray text in the border of the Finder window.

From time to time, desktop icons will simply vanish until I click the Finder icon.

... and if you dig the INK! Print Rally article in this week's @inlander.com, check out the @alayt.bsky.social podcast interview with Jeni and Jaiden that I did a week prior.
Joining ALAYT this week are Jeni Riplinger and Jaiden Haley of the arts incubator Emerge Coeur d'Alene.

Emerge's much-anticipated INK! Print Rally is coming up on Sept. 13. We talk about that and all the other events and resources Emerge offers.

I've got two bylines (well, same byline, different articles) in the @inlander.com this week.

One is for Emerge CdA's INK! Print Rally. The other is something completely different: Rate debates in a local irrigation district.

MacSurfer has relaunched under new stewardship. IMHO, there's still a place for barebones headline aggregators. They keep us out of info bubbles.

At the same time, I've no clue why "Taylor Swift Engaged to Travis Kelce" is currently its own category on MacSurfer.

Anyone else bought @unraid.net 20th anniversary merch?

Two tees arrived today and measure a full size smaller according to their own chart, making them unwearable for me. Caveat emptor.

My only regret is not buying the entire RH bundle when I got the other apps.

So what exactly marks the point where we've undeniably crossed the line into kleptocratic fascism? Are there still people on the fence trying to convince themselves things aren't that bad?

A 3rd @inlander.com / @alayt.bsky.social double bill this week, this time for My Turn Theater.

These really aren't intentional, I swear. The recording and publication dates just put things in sync.

A tool to look up your tree equity score: www.treeequityscore.org/map

Note that thick tree cover tends to be a feature of the most desirable areas. It's simple: We like and value the myriad benefits of trees, whether we're conscious of that or not. So plant more and stop cutting 'em down.
