More images from @pacifiplankton.bsky.social this time of hornwort spores! These start off as a tetrad and break apart. Thinking these belong to Paraphymatoceros pearsonii, also growing on the Stanford campus. @diatomsattack.bsky.social @sfmicrosociety.org
a single spore with a tri-radiate ridge on the proximal surface. SEM image of 3 hornwort spores. Tri-radiate ridge on the proximal surface and ~10 lumps on the distal side. Hornwort spores still in a tetrad. Can see lumps on the distal side. A twisted psuedoelators can be seen close by and on top of the spores.

Some stalked tubers growing on what I think is the #Hornwort Phymatoceros bulbiculosus, including one that is branching!😱

Hornwort chloroplasts! These have lots of little particles, I'm guessing starch granules?
