Today is, sadly but also joyfully, a good day to listen to the sardonic wit of Tom Lehrer. I first heard him on the Doctor Demento Show. That was just a taste; all his recordings are full of great stuff.

This four-panel Peanuts cartoon takes a scene from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" that asks "Isn't there anyone who understands what Christmas is all about?" and replaces Linus's Bible quote with a discussion of the pagan origins of Christmas. He highlights how these origins spark the irony of contemporary Christians' longing for their vision of a more traditional Christmas. Linus concludes that aside from its origins or roots, Christmas is a "wonderful opportunity to share our love with friends and family."
