Also NONE of this will work (or is working) for transit riders traveling north bound on Rainier without dedicated bus-only lanes south of Massachusetts. In these designs, and in the current situation, the bus gets stuck behind cars queuing in the right lane to get on I-90.

Maybe there are other segments that will get repaved this year? I wish I knew. Been trying for months now to get an answer.

Welp, after years of planning, pots of dedicated funding, promises that despite other elements getting yanked from the plans that sidewalk repairs were still on the table, the only sidewalk on LWB that got repaved this year was the segment right in front of Bruce's house.

Couldn't turn down some free block party chairs -- and pretty impressed that even without bungees, the @ternbicycles.com and @theoverheadwire.com
scarf got them 3mi to home. Those scarves are surprisingly stretchy!

So you can start your ride at a white (non-dock area) bike (on this map) & earn free rides this way. I had a few hours to kill and had a lot of fun getting to explore the city chasing down bikes to re-park and earning credits. Imagine if we paid ride credit for misparked micromobility in Seattle!

While the bikes have a "lock to" requirement, they can be locked at any bike rack - so many of the designated dock stations are just regular bike racks marked on the map. You can choose to park *not* in one of those areas, but it costs more. Best of all, you get credit for moving non-station bikes

I also am a huge fan of docked or semi-docked systems. I know Seattle tried this, but I still believe it's the best option for dense cities & I love using them in NYC and DC. I was in Eugene recently, and I know the scale was smaller, but I really appreciated their semi-docked system...

Rocked my @theoverheadwire.com bus lane scarf for a bus lane ribbon cutting!

Free buses in Iowa City in the NYT! I was there a couple weeks ago and was surprised at how packed and how frequent the buses were for a city that size

But on demand transit is the future...right?
Reported by @techcrunch.com
What worries me- what happens to those of us who rely on transit in the communities that have been convinced to abandon fixed route systems because Via is the future. And if Via can't make the math work, then what?

Just got back from Surrey and for comparison, appear to be lots of 24 hour pharmacy options

But why does it give the first quote to Bruce and doesn't event quote Katie? Eww.
November 13, 2025 at 11:02 PM
From my book, I love this quote that Bellingham's (and now TranspoGroup) Chris Comeau shared. "You cannot continue to make it easy to drive or park a car if you’re trying to plan for people."

But instead, traffic queuing to the highway ramps is viewed as something to be avoided. I know nobody likes traffic. But other than congestion pricing, congestion is how we are going to get mode shift. Especially when there's bus only lanes and light rail.
November 13, 2025 at 9:15 PM
Thinking big picture, wouldn't it make sense to reduce single occupancy vehicle lanes on Rainier EVEN and ESPECIALLY if it would cause traffic backups to the I-90 on and off ramps because that would induce more people to ride the light rail across the bridge we just spent billions building?
November 13, 2025 at 9:15 PM
These traffic calming islands are getting built which are a clear sign there's excess road capacity that could be used for projected bike infrastructure on Rainier. Buses and bike lanes now!

Was just gonna angry post about how a KC Metro bus skipped the stop with three of us waiting. But then a passenger on the next bus gave my kid a hot rod car, so all is forgiven (and sometimes the 7 bus is the most amazing place and makes me love this city).

Top of the Q&A at Town Hall tonight

In a Life After Cars, bookstores in super rainy climates would have plastic bags.

(Luckily I made it home before the book got totally soaked. Looking forward to getting my booked signed tonight at @thewaroncars.bsky.socialSeattle event!)

Appreciate that in collecting demographic data as part a rider survey, Sound Transit asks about access to driving options.

And no it wasn't just daylight savings. Was doing this on Nov 1 as well.

The AI cannot compute.

(No part of this trip was taken in a car)
November 4, 2025 at 2:12 AM
The leaves on Rainier Ave are making a pretty convincing argument that the center turn lanes don't get much use -- lots of excess road space that could be protected bike infrastructure.

anyone else noticed the live tracking on KCMetro has been messed up lately, with lots of weird ghost buses?
