I think I could get behind electric cars if they weren't also computerized cars, like there's no need for those to be the same thing, I want everything that isn't turning the wheels to be knobs and cranks and switches

I think some of the time this is true but it also speaks to a real paucity of language for how society functions when it's mediated by the internet. social media really does reiterate a lot of high school dynamics, we need some kind of way to acknowledge and deal with that

the dream of the turbo diesel hot hatch rises again
The gasoline-powered car is outlasting the policies that had aimed to banish it.

The European Union said it would back away from a pledge to ban emissions from new vehicles in 2035, a day after Ford said it would scale back electric vehicle production plans.
Future of driving takes an unexpected turn, as gas cars get a new boost
The E.U. is retreating from its landmark pledge to impose a ban on new gas-powered cars in 2035, and Ford is pulling back from EV production.

trump is probably sort of moral according to like, the formal church of satan or whatever. he's mostly true to his appetites and whims, broadly uninterested in policing other people except instrumentally, always trying to fully actualize his own weird sui generis will into the world
Virginia Heffernan wrote this shortly after the 2016 election and it still holds true

raises a lot of questions about what "renaissance-level art skills" are, like is realism from regular practice and photographic reference as impressive as realism from the systematic study of corpses? are you grinding and mixing your own pigments?
"people with renaissance-level art skills don't exist anymore" yes they do their username is something like 03748218_ and they spend all their time drawing pornography so deranged it'd kill hugh hefner a second time

don't think this is a valid use case for "lives rent-free," remembering stuff I enjoy pays the rent by me enjoying it

like it's not that there aren't cranks and hyper conservatives and stuff on japanese twitter but it also manages to feed me lots of shockingly insightful and well-adjusted normal people
really think we'd all be a lot more normal over here if english wasn't the lingua franca everywhere else

still getting a fair amount of value out of twitter by just letting the algorithm shepherd me towards total immersion in translated japanese

realizing I don't really have any integrity about certain things, like I'm puritanical about gambling because I've never felt any draw towards it despite having a pretty impulsive and even addictive personality, but I think drugs are fine because I love doing a cool drug

even though we thought about it really hard we can't quite fully solve human freedom and conscience with a special kind of bureaucracy
Despite decades of research, it is still very difficult to know whether someone will try to die by suicide. Clinicians often rely on patients to disclose thoughts of self-harm, but some are lobbying for a new diagnosis called suicide crisis syndrome, or SCS, to better assess the risk.
