There should be a little Kevin making the same expression inside her mouth.

Yes. Same with 3D effects that extend onto the letterboxes.

It's been a debate. Some people argue for that consistency, others argue the home audience isn't getting to see the full image. It's case by case, usually director's choice. Nolan and Ridley Scott do it too.

So I've heard. Never read it.

This isn't uncommon in films where specific scenes are framed for IMAX. Sometimes it's adjusted for home video, sometimes not.

The spoiled, reckless princess of a fallen kingdom, not wanting to deal with the existential crossroads of who she wants to be with the powers she has. You can make a great story out of that.

Moreso than Superman, it'll be interesting to see this version of Kara dealing with the revelation of Kryptonians as ruthless aristocrats, because she grew up in that society only to have it torn away.

I own it too. Granted I own most of the syndicated action shows from that era.

People also forget how long spite can burn as a fuel.

Zone Fighter is a mixed bag, but it's got some really solid bits from time to time.

Which is why it's special, yes, but it shouldn't be a requirement since that's not an experience everyone finds meaning in. But it's also great when people later get to see a film in theaters that they already love but have only enjoyed at home. It allows the different engagement to make it new.

Plus, the majority of films will only ever be seen in home markets. If it can't hold up and be appreciated through more than a single, and frankly limiting, form of viewing, that feels more like a shortcoming of the filmmaker than of the viewer.

Different, maybe, but that doesn't automatically equate lesser.
December 10, 2025 at 6:54 PM
No. There's plenty of great cinema that just isn't able to break into the theatrical market. Seeing a film in a theater is a special experience, but denying recognition to films because that's an element they can't get access to present is ultimately going to bury more films than it boosts.

Runes isn't part of the James collection I'm currently reading, but I'm really excited to dive into the adaptations after, especially all the Christmas specials.

"Number 13" (1899) 3 stars. Lacks a solid climactic beat, but fascinating story about a hotel not just haunted by a ghost, but by a room that keeps appearing and disappearing.

Manipulative is always a lazy criticism. One of the key goals of storytelling in general is to evoke emotion. I get instances of it feeling heavy handed or overly obvious, but "manipulative" is still the wrong go to phrase.
