I wanna talk about this, because these Dems are fundamentally misunderstanding trump's world view. (I'm also going to ignore the filibuster though because there's a lot to unpack just on that.)
More than anything else, this is what led some Senate Democrats to cut a deal: Trump’s willingness to hurt people exceeds their willingness to see people get hurt. And some of them feared that their Republican colleagues would, under mounting pressure, do as Trump had demanded and abolish the filibuster. (Whether that would be a good or a bad thing is a subject for another column.) This, in the end, is the calculation the defecting Senate Democrats are making: They don’t think a longer shutdown will cause Trump to cave. They just think it will cause more damage.

The follow-up I'd add is: even if the Founders were right about the people in their time, they are wrong about the people in our time.
The Founders tried to construct a government that featured all kinds of guardrails to protect liberty: separation of powers, federalism, and checks and balances. They didn’t want to count too much on uncommon courage or wisdom from the people. As Federalist #51 puts it, A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions. This policy of supplying, by opposite and rival interests, the defect of better motives, might be traced through the whole system of human affairs…These inventions of prudence cannot be less requisite in the distribution of the supreme powers of the State.

A lot of the people arrested last night were US citizens, which will likely happen in a more systematic fashion very soon. A recent National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM-7), first reported by Ken Klippenstein, has explicitly classified the following beliefs as “indica of violence” in organizations, groups, and individuals: anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, anti-Christianity, support for the overthrow of the United States Government, extremism on migration, extremism on race, extremism on gender hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on religion, and hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on morality.

Honestly one of the worst things about software engineering is how many people do not understand what the job actually is. Especially when they have some power over you.

This is a grim read, if only because of how many parallels there are.

But Vance chose to interrupt his vacation yesterday for an interview with Maria Bartiromo on the Fox Business channel. Bartiromo predictably asked Vance about Epstein. Vance chose not simply to deflect and say blandly that the administration was handling the situation responsibly. Nor did he choose to defend Donald Trump and assert confidently that Trump had done nothing wrong. No. Instead Vance gave the simmering Epstein issue new oxygen. He emphasized that “President Trump has demanded full transparency” on this issue—an assertion that only raised the question of why the administration has actually released no information at all.

Reddit post in R slash vibe coding. thoughts on using experts (humans) to unblock vibe coders when Al fails? been thinking about this a bit, if everything is trending towards multi-agent systems and we're trying to create agents to resemble humans more and more to work together, why not just also figure out a way to loop in expert humans? Seems like a lot of the problems non-eng vibe coders have could be a quick fix for a senior eng that they could loop in.
