They said it couldn't be done. Now, with commitments on economic development, housing & language, we're on the home straight to locking down a deal for Cornwall.

There is absolutely nothing progressive about the broken, uncontrolled migration system we were handed. I support our Home Secretary Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood in doing all she can to fix it.

More from yesterday’s frenetic Opposition Day Debates:
Strikes under the last Government cost the NHS nearly £3bn and far more to the wider economy. By last July it was clear the balance had snapped - the NHS needed real investment to keep people healthy, productive and driving Britain’s growth.

Opposition Day Debates are a vital part of the Parliamentary process & often raise timely, pertinent questions, but don't always offer robust (or fully-funded) solutions.

If there're measures to bring down bills in the budget, they will be fully-funded, not paid for by the magic money tree.

Today, on Armistice Day, I was honoured to plant a cross in the Constituency Garden of Remembrance.

As we pause to remember those who served and sacrificed, we reflect on the courage, duty, and humanity shown by generations who fought for the freedoms we cherish today.

We will remember them.

In the 1960s a young black man came to this country. He spent the next 40 years dedicating his life to our RAF and NHS. His children became teachers, nurturing the next generation on to a better life. His grandson is now your MP for St Austell & Newquay.

When I was elected, I pledged to revitalise our towns.

In Newquay and across mid-Cornwall, small, independent businesses are the heart of our high streets – and business rates reform cannot come soon enough.

Looking forward to launching my Pledge for Towns in St Austell later this year.

Yesterday, I asked the Government about safeguarding our cyber defences.

With ever evolving threats – from Russian state-linked attacks to disinformation campaigns run through platforms like Musk’s X – we must step up support for the technologies, skills and partnerships that keep the UK secure.

AND, the PRIVATISATION BY STEALTH not talked about enough:
Increasing failure to adopt roads, green spaces and drainage on new estates – leaving people paying double to private companies and through council tax for maintenance of the public realm.

Two urgent reforms – Right to Manage and proper regulation – are needed to fix the broken property management sector.
Our @labouruk.bsky.social government is committed to delivering for leaseholders who have suffered with 'fleecehold' for far too long.

MORE: The Cornish MPs have been working to devolve power across key priorities like housing, transport and economic development.
As I made clear to the Leader of the House earlier today, it's crunch time to deliver the right powers and investment to #Cornwall - in line with what we need

Every Cornish business that has something to offer our burgeoning critical minerals supply chains should be able to play its part - bringing about jobs and prosperity locally.

Today, in Department for Business and Trade Questions, I asked what more they are doing to unlock these opportunities.

To tax wealth, you have to know where it is.

To boost tax revenue, we need better data.

Today, Labour introduced the Hillsborough Law, ensuring truth, candour and justice.

As a lifelong Liverpool fan, I know how deeply the Hillsborough disaster has scarred families, survivors and our wider community. The tireless fight of the families and campaigners has made this possible.

In DEFRA questions on Thursday, I raised the alarm on the issue of dry day spills of #sewage.
I'm glad that, under our watch, the @envagency.bsky.social has now shone a light on the issue.
The acid test, however, will be if the new, single strengthened regulator takes action and prosecutes.

Great to be back out in the constituency!

Started the day in Nansledan to back residents' calls to lower the speed limit and ensure there are pedestrian crossings.

Then over to Narrowcliff Surgery.

Grateful for the new investment in Newquay Health Centre but there is still much work to be done.
