Tymkovich's appointment extends the streak of Republican-appointed justices being assigned this critical committee chairmanship by the Chief Justice.

Though records are not always evident, as best I can tell, this committee has not had a Democrat-appointed judge as chair since at least 1991.

Tymkovich was one of the judges on Trump's initial shortlist for the Supreme Court. More tellingly, he was also the judge who disposed of the ethics complaints against Justice Kavanaugh after the non-investigation of Kavanaugh's history of sexual misbehavior.

The point is not that it's meaningless. It's that Dems and the public need to up their pressure on Wicker, and give him cover to continue bucking Trump.

Wicker has pulled this before, opposing Trump's stance on Ukraine, before backing down and zipping it.
