I am thinking about creating a little video.
Of course it is a very personal choice. I tried notion and it didn't really fit my needs. One big advantage is the fact I'm now more in control. I can have everything local and a backup in the cloud or on my own backup system.

Yes, me too. Probably the servers needs some upgrading.
It's a good sign I suppose.

A canvas for brainstorming, with notes, cards, images.
Many usefull plugins. For example #Excalidraw which I use for old maps and connect precise locations to notes with information.
And it really has become a 'second brain'.

I do like Mastodon. Especially the independence from big controlling companies.

We are all split up over several social media now...
Most interaction for me at the moment is on mastodon.
I think you have to be in more than one place now.
And see what works best.

That is sad John... Paleography is the basis of all historical research. And practice makes perfect.
Saying that, sometimes transcription with an AI is a godsend.

Transcribing it yourself gives you a deeper understanding of the document though. But sometimes I just don't have the time for it.... Only one life, in which only a number of hours can be spent on genealogy.

Without correction it is horrible. But full text search can still give you clues. I have uploaded about 50000 pages to Transkribus when it was still free. Had it automatically transcribed and still can find documents I wasn't aware of... But also realising that I am probably missing half of it all.

I agree. Although ai transcription is a big help and timesaver.
I could do it by hand, but this is 10 times as fast.

Also for full text search it is great.
