Final thoughts:
This project really put “it’ll be cheaper to make it yourself” to the test.
TBH I think if I wanted to go with a more common species, I could’ve ordered a pre-made from a reputable Asian maker, beginner/novice maker for not THAT much more than what I spent all in.

Why did I make this thread?
Just to give fellow beginner fursuit makers a rough idea of what to expect when it comes to prices and where to get things, especially Canadian makers. Also because I put all of this down on a spreadsheet and I want to show it off. LOOK AT MY SHEET!

Consumables: $75.55
I didn’t use all 200 hot glue sticks for this project. Still won’t be doing a breakdown of the prices based on what I actually used.

The mannequin head I got is smaller than an average adult head, so I just padded it out with a few reusable shopping bags and duct tape. I was resisting getting this until I had to attach the neck to the head. I should’ve gotten it right from the start. Would’ve made things much more ergonomic.

Tools and things: $186.04
I already have a sewing machine and decent sewing and arts/craft supplies. Some things here are just upgrades. TBH I didn’t use my sewing machine as much as I thought I would. Nice to have, but not need to have. It was mostly used for the lining and paws.

I got a bunch of decent foam for free from my work. It would’ve been nice to get more to make the feet, but I was laid off before my work received any more packages that came with the foam. The Furbsona turned into an unemployment time sink project to keep me busy all month. 🫠

Fur from AliExpress?
There are some good suppliers on that platform that I heard about often (eg Linda Wholesale), so it’s not as sketchy as it sounds.
Buying local or from furries would’ve been nice, but TBH I wanted to go inexpensive for my first time. Also the postal strike limited my options.

The main stuff (fur, foam, etc.): $270.30
These are just the prices I paid for everything (incl. taxes and shipping if applicable). I won’t be doing a breakdown of the prices based on what I actually used. Rough guess: I used a little over half of fur and fabric, and only 2.5 squares of EVA foam.
