I guess you can change the shims, but it will be difficult to improve the homogeneity/lineshape like that.

LOL, of course! Big(-ish) magnets, tiny magnets (spins), pulsed magnets, microwaves, radio-frequencies, and light :D

In our recently submitted grants we had to change “traumatic brain injury” to “concussive brain injury” and “male and female mice” to “male and non-male mice” because traumatic and female are now verboten words that can get our grants killed. It’s insanity.

So what can/does it do? Do you have an example for EPR?

for the rent and machines anymore. Science funding is much more than just subsidies.

Hi Art, I agree with this part. But there are no „customers“ and the money is not „investment“ in the sense that you have to pay back with more money. I am not saying that this rhetoric caused these dillusional funding cuts, but imagine a Bagel shop owner complaining that the government doesn‘t pay

While I agree with the text in the big scheme of things, and I am also worried about the US and its science in particular, I find it rather surprising that even in this context, you refer to your research group as a business.

Sigmatropic rearrangement enables access to a highly stable spirocyclic nitroxide for protein spin labelling
Spin labelling enables the study of biomolecules using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Here, we describe the synthesis of a cysteine-reactive spin label based on a spirocyclic pyrr...
