But the key to editing (oneself) is going back in and asking: OK, how much of this is actually useful/interesting? Do I have larger points to make instead? And to be real, writing on deadline doesn't usuallu leave room (time) for that process!

I get the impulse of "these are all the MANY ways in which this show is mediocre (or worse)" and I've probably been guilty of it myself, but that approach can start to feel like a comprehensive list of what doesn't work, rather than a larger more thoughtful and frankly interesting analysis!

I would *also* argue that being a good writer in the realm of journalism is not just "do you write with style and clarity" but are you an honest broker? Are you practicing the profession ethically?

It's like saying someone is a "good tailor" when the suit looks good but immediately falls apart
