For over a year now I have mulled over how when I was a teen girl we would vision board with stock images and collages. Now men in power use those same tactics with AI slop and (still) collages to picture themselves as knights and heroes and buff legends while derailing democracy. (1/n)

The right is ready to spin and question the validity of visual evidence regarding the harms of deportation/locking the border AND produce counter frames. They post mocking that deportation visuals will be "in demand" and have started visual offenses and defenses. They already have motifs and memes.

Starting 2025 with laryngitis from steroids I'm taking from an immune flare up which means I get to deliver 3 slide decks tomorrow while whispering into a fuzzy handheld TikTok mic. 🫠🫠🫠 But also I am SO EXCITED for stuff coming up this year. A small peak with 0 context 👀

I think about this a lot in context of Iberian colonial art, where there were really known rules of artists (often hired by gvts/churches) of how groups (ie races) or rulers were to be depicted in information disseminated to the colonies. We see many of these compositions in today in these images.

I have not made a post here yet but I am starting my PhD now and am getting back online. Thinking about all things visual info online and how it harms folks on and offline. Really excited and nervous to start the whole grad school thing now. Woot!
