I still don’t understand why we’re not adjusting the semester dates such that the teaching ends before the summer heat kicks in? If the University of Mannheim (and many other institutions worldwide) can do it, we can too. What we’re currently going through is completely avoidable.

Sure you don't want to work with us? We're clearly not an Ivy League institution, but we can offer a great work environment in a beautiful region. Lake and the Alps are included for free. In case it matters, egg prices are stable at around 30 cents apiece. stellen.uni-konstanz.de/jobposting/8...

After 26 days, 2424 kilometers, 16 talks and only two flat tires, #BikeAndTalk2024 from Konstanz to Oslo is over! It was a fantastic trip, and I’m so grateful for meeting so many great colleagues along the way. Hope to do another iteration of this format next year.

Was great to wrap up #BikeAndTalk2024 with such a great audience at @unioslo-svfak.bsky.social! That view towards the fjord and Holmenkollen is spectacular. Many thanks to the CIR group and in particular, @felixhaass.bsky.social for having me.

Had so much fun being back at my old institute (the Peace Research Institute Oslo) as part of #BikeAndTalk2024. Thanks for the opportunity to present, @mariannedahl.bsky.social and @haakongjerlw.bsky.social!

Safely made it to Oslo today! Thanks @sschutte.bsky.social for the warm welcome. While the biking part of #BikeAndTalk2024 is over, there’s some more talking to do: Looking forward to present at the Peace Research Institute Oslo tomorrow and at the @unioslo-svfak.bsky.social on Friday.

Was a bit of a longer trip today (200k), but I made it to Norway! Second half (north of Uddevalla) was beautiful. Some occasional showers kept me well hydrated (at least from the outside). Tomorrow will be the last leg of #BikeAndTalk2024 to Oslo!

There’s probably no better place to present a project on replicating V-Dem with LLMs than the #vdeminstitute. Thanks everyone for the great discussion and Marina Nord for having me! Was also great to catch up with former student @elenaleuschner.bsky.social. #BikeAndTalk2024

After spending time in Copenhagen and Lund, it was good to be out on the road again. Mostly perfect cycling conditions between Lund and Gothenburg, and lots of great views! #BikeAndTalk2024

Thanks to the CP group @comppollu.bsky.social (and in particular, Jonathan Polk and Alexander Ryan) for having me as part of their speaker series! It was great to stop in Lund during #BikeAndTalk2024. The next two days are all biking (and no talking) to get to Gothenburg.

Thanks to @ascharpf.bsky.social and @fghjorth.bsky.social for having me as part of the speaker series at Copenhagen University’s Dept. of Political Science today! A great audience with super useful comments on our project. This was the second talk in Copenhagen, and I’m off to Sweden tomorrow.
June 13, 2024 at 1:27 PM
My first #BikeAndTalk2024 presentation in Copenhagen was today at the Copenhagen Business School, organized by @fhollenbach.bsky.social. Thanks so much for having me, was great to visit!

Had a blast presenting at the Department of Political Science at @aarhusuni.bsky.social as part of #BikeAndTalk2024. @claranw.bsky.social and @skaaning.bsky.social were wonderful hosts, thanks so much! Now off to the island of Zealand on the ferry and on to Copenhagen tomorrow.

I’m not superstitious, but Day 13 has clearly been the worst of #BikeAndTalk2024. Long detour shortly after Kiel (bridge closed), rescued my bike from the Baltic Sea (for a photo! So stupid. But it floats), and pouring rain when entering Denmark. Tomorrow will be a better day!
June 8, 2024 at 4:39 PM
Today, I presented our work with Sukayna Younger-Khan and @lfoswaldo.bsky.social one more time at the University of Kiel. Thanks for having me, Christian Martin! After 9/16 presentations and 1350km, more than half of #BikeAndTalk2024 is over. Tomorrow, I will be leaving Germany for Denmark!
June 7, 2024 at 2:15 PM
Mina Rulis and I had a great time presenting at GIGA Institute on Day 11 of #BikeAndTalk2024. Thanks for the hospitality, @cvonsoest.bsky.social! After the stop on Hamburg I‘m off to the Baltic Sea.
June 6, 2024 at 2:02 PM
Day 9 of #BikeAndTalk2024 had a pretty tight schedule, with two presentations (Braunschweig and Hannover) and a total of 170k by bike. Thanks to Mina Rulis for co-presenting, and to Anja Jakobi, Dominic Nyhuis and Christoph Hönnige for hosting the talks!
June 4, 2024 at 7:56 PM
On Day 8 of #BikeAndTalk2024, Sukayna Younger-Khan and I gave two presentations, at @kasselinstitute.bluesky.social (hosted by Andreas Ernst) and the Institute of Political Science at Göttingen University (hosted by Anja Jetschke). Thanks to @abusch.bluesky.social for the evening city tour!

120k from Marburg to Kassel today in very mixed weather. Took the scenic route along Edersee lake, but had to pay for it - bike was a mess, because of the unpaved and muddy trails. #BikeAndTalk2024

As part of #BikeAndTalk2024, I presented at the University of Marburg today, hosted by @mqpellicer.bsky.social. Great turnout, also because Simone Abendschön and members of the team from Gießen University were able to join us!

#BikeAndTalk2024 Day 4 brought some rain for the trip from Mainz to Marburg. But cycling through the Taunus mountains was nice, with a bit of a climb to the Feldberg summit.
May 30, 2024 at 2:53 PM
Really enjoyed my visit to the Institute of Political Science at the University of Mainz today. I’m grateful to @kaiarzheimer.bsky.social for arranging the talk, and thanks to everyone who participated for the lively discussions!

Perfect cycling conditions on Day 2 of #BikeAndTalk2024 from Karlsruhe to Mannheim, with cool and dry weather and tailwind. Thanks to the MZES and in particular Richard Traunmüller for hosting my talk!
May 28, 2024 at 8:14 PM
Day 1 of #BikeAndTalk2024 went just fine, despite getting soaked on the first 20k. Arrived in Karlsruhe after 180k and some scenic stretches in the Black Forest Mountains. Was great to wrap up the day with a dinner with former student @lks.bsky.social !
