I think that all this Alberta separation talk serves 3 purposes for Smith
1. It distracts from the mess she's made of Alberta healthcare, education, etc
2. It keeps the separatist faction in the UCP happy, so she keeps her job as leader
3. Selling out Alberta to the US keeps BF Trump happy
